Good wood furniture lasts for decades with the right care. But Riyadh’s climate is special: high heat, dry air from air conditioning most of the year, and dust that keeps finding its way indoors. Here are simple tips from the Woodhouse team to keep your pieces as good as the day they arrived.
1. Air conditioning and sun: the silent enemies
- Keep pieces away from direct AC vents. Constant cold, dry air draws moisture from wood, causing fine cracks or loosened joints over time.
- Keep room humidity moderate where possible (40–55%); a humidifier helps in rooms that stay closed all day.
- Avoid long hours of direct sunlight through windows; it fades and dries wood. Light curtains are usually enough.
2. Dust: cleaning the right way
- Dust once or twice a week with a soft microfibre cloth, dry or very lightly damp.
- Always wipe along the grain, then dry the surface straight away.
- Avoid cleaners containing ammonia, bleach or alcohol, and never use glass sprays on wood.
3. Everyday use
- Use coasters under glasses and trivets under hot dishes and trays.
- Wipe spills immediately, especially water, which leaves white rings if left.
- Put felt pads under feet and heavy accessories to avoid scratches.
- When moving a piece, lift it rather than dragging it, so the joints are not strained.

4. Periodic care
Every 3–6 months, use a polish or wax suited to your piece’s finish. Lacquered finishes need only gentle cleaning; oiled wood needs a light re-oil. Not sure which finish you have? Message us with your order number and we will recommend the right product.
5. What about marble?
If your piece has a marble top, wipe acidic liquids (lemon, coffee, vinegar) immediately, clean with warm water and a neutral cleaner, and re-seal every 6–12 months. For more, read our guide to marble versus wood dining tables.
Your warranty covers manufacturing defects
