As Riyadh’s weather cools, gardens, rooftops and annexes become the best places in the house. But outdoor seating faces harsher conditions than any indoor piece: strong summer sun, dust, and occasional winter rain. A good outdoor set starts with the right material.
Why teak?
Teak is one of the most widely used woods for outdoor furniture worldwide, because its natural oils make it more resistant to water, cracking and insects than most other woods. Left untreated, it weathers to a beautiful silver-grey that many people love, and its honey tone can be restored with cleaning and oiling.
Choosing the right size
- Rooftop or small terrace: a compact, flowing set that does not need much space, like the TALA Outdoor Lounge.
- Medium garden: a three-seater sofa with two chairs and a coffee table, like our Outdoor Seating Set with its marble table.
- Large garden or estraha: a larger set with deep cushions for family and guests, like the ARWAQ Outdoor Collection.
Leave about 60–90 cm of walkway around the set, and plan for shade or an umbrella if the space gets sun most of the day.
Cushions and fabrics
Choose cushions in water- and UV-resistant fabric with removable, washable covers. Earthy tones like beige and sand hide dust better than very light colours.
Caring for outdoor seating
- Dust weekly, and wash the wood with water and mild soap every month or two.
- To keep the honey tone, apply teak oil once or twice a year.
- Bring cushions in or cover them during rain and dust storms.
- Use a fitted cover if the set won’t be used for a long time.
